Mere takes action again

Lands Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa has imposed a freeze on development of land where there are mangroves. She announced this during consultations in Lami where many residents are concerned about mangroves that have been cleared to make way for factories and warehouses. It’s unclear whether this is a new policy and how it affects the issue of qoliqoli but at least she has had the courage to listen to people and act. She said “There is a mangrove management plan that is there at the moment, once that becomes policy it will become part and parcel of every foreshore land lease.”
