Khaiyum’s plan to release his own version of standing orders for the new parliament shows what a power-crazed ego-maniac he is. The old Parliament had a set of standing orders put together over many years, but this means nothing to our constitution-giver. He thinks nothing that has not been created by him personally has any value. He can’t leave it up to the new parliament to decide on its own rules, and this is the same reason why he hates democracy. This is the fatal flaw of this regime when it tries to persuade voters to support it. It’s time to persuade, not dictate.
