PNG throws out Aslam and Vodaphone

The deal with PNG to give the FNPF a stake in and management of Papua New Guinea-based mobile company, Bemobile, has fallen through. Reading between the lines it seems that the problem is the sweetheart deal given to Aslam Khan’s Vodaphone to ‘manage’ the deal. PNG PM, O’Neill, was reported as saying “governance issues relating to a contractor could not be resolved”. Bainimarama and Khaiyum treat all our national assets as if they are their personal property to be handed out to friends, but it looks like Peter O’Neill is not going to let them do the same with PNG’s assets, especially after Kubuabola’s crazy rant in Brisbane.
