Regime has lost faith in sugar

Radio New Zealand has reported that the cane farmers are being helped to grow breadfruit orchards so they no longer have to rely on cane. We’ve heard about plans like this before. They’re persuading cane farmers to go into dairy and a whole host of other crops. It’s as if they expect the industry to collapse and they want to have something else for the farmers to fall back on. Let’s hope that after all the effort in planting breadfruit the farmers have a market when the trees are ready to produce. Let’s hope it’s not another potato flop or ginger stuff-up because the sugar industry, in the hands of Bainimarama and Vaniqi, seems doomed.
