Stealing credit

One story we see all the time in our muzzled media is a picture of happy villagers who have just become the beneficiaries of a new water supply system, village electrification or sanitation system. The Bainikhaiyum regime likes to give everyone the impression that all these benefits flow from them. The truth is many of these are provided by Non Government Organisations which receive funding assistance from Governments like NZ and Australia. Today’s example is the Navutulevu settlement in Serua who were the beneficiaries of new septic tanks provided by Rotary Pacific Water, a New Zealand NGO which receives assistance from the NZ Government. NGOs like this have to have permission from the regime to work in Fiji but this doesn’t give them licence to take credit for the works of others.
