The truth about roads admitted

When the regime decided it would try to fix the roads that fell into a disastrous state after six years of Bainimarama rule, they put an expatriate professional in charge of the new Fiji Roads Authority. Since then he’s admitted the truth of the appalling state of our roads and closed two key bridges in Suva because they were no longer safe. Now he’s admitted that Northern Division roads are worse than he thought. And he’s also admitted “that traditional lower cost maintenance practices will not produce the outcomes needed for roads in the North”. What he doesn’t realise, however, is that “traditional lower cost maintenance practices” are a creation of the Bainimarama regime, which thought it could borrow all the money it needed for roads from Malaysia and China. Only when the Malaysian roads were washed away in the first big downpour did the regime realise that its propaganda fooled no-one. People can see all the potholes. Propaganda can’t fill them.
